Access Statement for 3 Museum Square, Leicester, LE1 6UF

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our visitors.

3 Museum Square is located in Leicester City Centre and offers a women-only environment, one-to-one support and group activities.

The property is a Grade II listed Victorian Building which has been converted to accommodate offices and consultation areas. Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our visitors there are some period features of the property which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. In particular there are 4 steps leading up to our entrance and, although we have ground floor consultation rooms we do not have a downstairs toilet.

If you have access needs that cannot be accommodated at 3 Museum Square we will endeavour to arrange alternative accommodation which can better met your needs. We have a number of options available to us and we are happy to discuss your individual requirements.

Pre-Arrival

We are located within walking distance of Leicester City Centre. Museum Square can be accessed on foot from New Walk or by car from Princess Road West. For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the Contact section of our website.

The nearest bus stop is on London Road outside Leicester Railway Station. The station is approximately 500 meters away and Taxis are usually available at the station.

Car Parking and Arrival

On street parking is available, though this can be busy during the day after 8am, but spaces are usually available after 4pm. You can park for up to 3 hours for £2 payable via the on-street parking meters. Parking is also available at Victoria Park at the top of New Walk.

Access to our property is gained from the flagged pavement. This is well lit at night by a motion sensor.

There are 4 entry steps of 585mm (23 inches) at the front door which is 915mm (36ins) wide. This gives access to the vestibule area leading through the 915mm (36ins) wide vestibule door into the hallway and the reception area.

Reception Area

The reception area is usually staffed and visitors will be asked to sign in. The doorway is 760mm (30inches) wide. The ground floor is level throughout and carpeted. Four seats are available in the reception area. The area is well lit with wall lighting and a pedestal lamp.

Public Areas – Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

All public areas, hall, stairs, and landings are well lit and carpeted.

Rooms are arranged around a central stairwell consisting of seventeen (17) x 175mm (7ins) stepped stairs to the first floor and eighteen (18) x 175mm (7ins) stepped stairs up to the second floor. The stairs are carpeted.

Consultation / Activity Rooms

There is one ground floor consultation / activity room entered by a 760mm (30 inches) doorway.  All other consultation / activity rooms are on the first and second floors and each room has a door width of a 760mm (30 inches).

Each room has a range of seating options including armchairs and sofas.

Toilets

There is are 2 toilets located off the 2 upstairs landings and are accessed via a 735mm (29ins) wide door and is step free/level entry. Toilets are both 380mm (15ins) high. There is no toilet on the ground floor.

Additional Information

  • We welcome assistance dogs
  • We are a women-only environment but male carers are welcome to accompany visitors by prior arrangement
  • We do not have facilities for children and can only allow children into the building if supervised at all times by a parent or carer.
  • Due to the nature of the work carried out by New dawn New Day, boys aged 11 and over are not allowed onto our premises
  • We are happy to cater for special diets or particular likes or dislikes. Please advise us before your arrival.
  • We can refrigerate prescription medication for a limited period
  • Mobile phone reception at 3 Museum Square is good.
